A couple of years ago I bought a lovely Chiang Mai House. It is an elegant three bedroom house with a decent sized garden. This I would recommend to anyone that would like to live in paradise.
I chose the land myself and I arrived at eight thirty in the morning to oversee the construction. Which, actually went very well, with only a few headaches? This is quite uncommon in Chiang Mai, as, you hear a lot of nightmare stories about builders just taking the money and doing a substandard construction job. For me this was not the case.
My wife suggested we should wait until this auspious day before the monks would bless the house and we could move in. I was not worried about waiting another day or two as I had waited nearly six months already.
The magic day arrived we had prepped hard the day before had it all well organized. The lucky time was set for 9:09 in the morning. The ceremony was great the monks blessed the house and we sat down and ate and drank all day long. Nearly all the local villagers turn out to wish us luck in our new house. It was definitely a day to remember.
The evening came and I was so tired from the day festivities that we went to bed early that night, with the content feeling of sleeping in our house and bed. The ZZZZZZZ’s kicked in then in what seemed to be a quick snooze I was rudely awaked by the house alarm… Hang on; we do not have an alarm…. Within a few seconds the realization kicked in that it was the temple next door waking all the monks. It is four o’clock and that is it no more sleeps!!!!!
This is now a daily occurrence the four o’clock alarm clock, Saturdays and Sundays included and no snooze button. I have tried double glazing and the old cotton wall in the ears tricks but to no avail. At the start I was cursing and trying to sell the house to get as far away from the temple as possible, but as time went by I got used to the bells. Believe me if I do end up moiving and buying a new Chiang Mai Property in the future I am certain it will not be a house next to a temple.
